Son of a Gun BBQ, a disabled veteran-owned business, proudly played a significant role at this year's LA Fleet Week, held at the Port of Los Angeles over the Memorial Day weekend. As an organization dedicated to honoring and supporting our servicemen and women, it was an immense honor for us to provide over 3,000 plates to active servicemen across all branches of the US military.
About LA Fleet Week
LA Fleet Week® is Southern California’s largest Memorial Day event and a grand celebration of our nation's Sea Services. Organized by the Pacific Battleship Center, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the event's mission is to ignite curiosity, connect communities, and enhance understanding of America’s role in maritime peace and prosperity. This annual, multi-day event offers a plethora of activities that are free to the general public, including:
- Active Duty Ship Tours: Experience life aboard active military ships with guided tours.
- Military Displays and Equipment Demonstrations: See the latest in military technology and equipment.
- Live Entertainment: Enjoy performances from military bands and other entertainers.
- Neighborhood Activations: Engage in community events across Downtown San Pedro and Wilmington.
- Aircraft Flyovers: Witness breathtaking aerial displays.
- Galley Wars Culinary Cook-off: Watch Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Air Force, and Army teams compete in a culinary showdown.
- Competitions: Participate in or watch dodgeball games and the Military Has Talent competition.
- Family Fun: Enjoy a range of activities designed for all ages.
Our Role at LA Fleet Week
Son of a Gun BBQ, a disabled veteran-owned business, was entrusted with the critical task of feeding the brave servicemen and women attending the event. With our commitment to quality and passion for barbecue, we served over 3,000 plates, ensuring that every hero had a hearty meal to enjoy. Our team worked tirelessly to prepare a menu that not only showcased our culinary skills but also honored the diverse palates of our servicemen and women.
From succulent ribs to our signature brisket, every dish was crafted with care, using the finest ingredients and our unique blend of spices. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and it was a joy to see smiles and satisfaction on the faces of those who serve our country.
Honoring Our Servicemen and Women
At Son of a Gun BBQ, we believe in giving back to the community, especially to those who dedicate their lives to protecting our nation. Participating in LA Fleet Week allowed us to express our gratitude in the best way we know how—through food. It was a humbling experience to serve those who serve, and we are honored to have been part of such a significant event.
